Noon position 12º 02’ N 17° 59’ W, so sailing Southwest at 20k + to clear the Western coastline, keeping inside the Cape Verde Islands (and well away, we are pleased to report). Crossing the Line soon.
Interesting lecture topics this week, all about the wreck and recovery of the Russian submarine ‘Kursk’ in 2000. Much speculation about Costa Concordia and the possibility of salvage. Looks like Smitt have the contract to remove the oil but the ship is most likely to be cut up. More later in the week. Can’t be doing Carnival’s share price much good.
Much amusement to be had by earwigging in the canteen! Point-scoring about how few people on their last cruise and somewhat inaccurate recollections of the trip from Montevideo to Cape Town last year when recounted as a tale!
Weather improving, news from home very exciting as wedding plans develop. If only the Internet was faster on the ship! (Cunard would make less on their hourly rate)
Knitting coming on apace and the suntan has made a start; we keep meeting people from last year, which is always interesting! Great to have a covered pool only a few metres down the corridor.
