Postcard from Tenerife

Astonishing news from the Med as a Costa ship founders off Tuscany. There must be more to it than Italian navigation. By coincidence we have a crew drill today, the importance of which the Commodore has stressed!
Another short walk down the pier to the town, all very clean. Took a bus trip with commentary round the interesting bits, a quick coffee in the sunshine to people-watch and a stroll round the Museum, which was very interesting – all about the geology, history and development of the Canary Islands. Shame the captions were only in Spanish, although the audio guide was in English! Paul must come next time!
You can see why Spain has a debt crisis; so many new and unused public buildings, fancy trams and cleared building sites with nothing started.
Time for local lunch – waiter speaking only Spanish, so R’s salad was a bit of a surprise (octopus, lettuce and something a bit like honey, but not as sweet)!! Beer excellent however!
P making excellent progress with the knitting, which should get some serious attention now we have several days at sea.
Cunard really making an effort this time – chocolate-dipped strawberries in the cabin yesterday and my smoked trout has already been offered! Does this mean we will have to update our Cruise Critic page?
One way to see the sights
